Masa Isono
PrincipalMasa Isono has been actively involved in corporate partnering and joint ventures between Japanese companies and U.S. and Asian partners for more than 15 years.
Combining skills of international business development, joint ventures management and knowledge of strategic planning and corporate finance, he has developed globalization strategies for Japanese, Asian and US companies. At DEFTA, he is specifically in charge of value-creating activities for its portfolio companies. In order to help its portfolio's global expansion, he sometimes takes on the role of interim CEO: developing business plans, inviting co-investors and developing strategic partnerships, mainly with Japanese companies.
Prior to joining DEFTA Partners, Mr. Isono was in charge of the $250 million direct investment of a Japanese retail giant into various Asian retailers. He has played an integral role in facilitating communication among management teams of portfolio companies and he has developed strategy to maximize the utilization of their resources. He has also served as the Director of a joint venture company in Hong Kong.
Mr. Isono has an B.A. from Waseda University and M.B.A. and M.A. in Economics from Boston University. He is a CFA charterholder, CPA (inactive) and a Chartered Member of The Security Analysts Association of Japan.
